Life on the Prairies is full of surprises, ...you never know what's going to pop up!

Next time you find yourself going for a stroll, really look at the things around you.

Sometimes we take our surroundings for granted. We don't always see what is right in front of us all along. Like in everything in life, try looking and searching for the beauty in the things and also the people that surround you. 

 

 

 

 

 

"Salsify"

This is called "Salsify" it is classed as a wild herb. It has also been called other names like Goatsbeard, Oyster Plant, Vegetable Oyster, Purple Oyster Plant, Yellow Salsify, & Meadow Salsify. Salsify has a single headed blossom, mainly composed of a large yellow or purple wheel of ray flowers. Large, white, round seed heads (about 2-3 in in diameter) develop when these flowers mature, usually during August. These images were taken July 11/2011.

Birds, Bees & My Apple Tree

On Sunday, it was a beautiful sunny day, and I had a wonderful surprise when 

I went out side. There was approximately a dozen Cedar Waxwings had flown away from my apple tree, because I had startled them. 

After a few minutes these cute little birds returned and proceeded to eat the blooms off the tree.   I could also see and hear the bees, buzzing around the blooms, they too where also enjoying the flowers on the apple tree.

I had a great time capturing these images. 

What magnificent creatures God has created.

Crocuses standing tall

The crocuses had a chance to grow tall this year. They didn't get hit by a dump of snow or frost, shortly after they have popped up out of the ground. This has happened a few times in the last few years.
Wow,... I had such a blast today photographing them.
As you can see there were so many good ones to choose from,
it was hard to narrow it down anymore than this. Hope you enjoy them too  :)

Spring has sprung!

When the Crocuses pop up out of the ground you know it's springtime on the Prairies.  :)
Every year I try to find new ways to photograph Crocuses,
...because they are so low to the ground it is a bit of a challenge to
take a creative & unique shot of them.
I set these little cuties on a pile of snow that hasn't melted yet.

Ferruginous Hawk

Cruising low over the bald prairie or circling high above the badlands, the Ferruginous Hawk lives around Alberta's southeast corner. They are huge in size and have a rich color to them. Which makes them a favourite among bird watchers.

Spring Flowers

I can feel spring is in the air !!!
